Location3 Crew Volunteers to Combat Childhood Trauma
One of Location3’s goals for 2018 is to establish ties with a community-based organization and get involved as volunteers. On Friday, March 23, we took our first steps toward realizing this goal: we volunteered with the Denver Children’s Advocacy Center!
With a mission to prevent abuse, strengthen families, and restore childhood, the DCAC is on the front lines to combat childhood trauma. They use research-based treatments to improve the process of forensic interviews, medical exams, and therapy. Beyond talk therapy, DCAC offers yoga, art, music, and dance therapies, among others. While it is sad that these services are needed in our society, DCAC confronts the challenges head-on, providing holistic care to mitigate the impact of trauma. They even serve Denver’s Spanish speakers with a fully bilingual model. DCAC serves more than 6,000 people in Denver! Location3 is thankful to get involved with such a deserving cause.
Our team of volunteers offered their morning hours to give back to the community. We helped by cleaning and organizing two therapy rooms and doing a bit of yard work. After a morning of bleaching toys, organizing and vacuuming, we were treated to a tour of the facilities. With this, we were able to see how our volunteer work contributes to the bigger picture of child advocacy and ultimately preventing child trauma.
Location3 plans to continue our partnership with DCAC in 2018 and into the future. We look forward to a day of landscaping in the summer and collecting supplies for foster care packs in the fall. If you are looking for a way to give, check out the DCAC wish list!
